Algae bed

Algae bed, as part of an exhibition on alternative future housing, explores the application of algae in everyday life.

In the prototype, we used bioluminescent algae – dinoflagellates – that have the ability to produce and emit blue light when stimulated by mechanical movement. Pipes with seawater and algae are placed on a rotating structure. The movement of the structure causes water waves in the pipes and by moving the water, the algae emit light.
